The Bihar Public Service Commission or BPSC has released a notification in which it has described about the changes in BPSC Mains pattern. This change will take effect from BPSC 68 Mains. The Changes are given below.
The biggest Change is in the optional papers of BPSC Mains. Now, the Optional Papers in BPSC 68 Mains will be of qualifying nature. It means a candidate has to score only a certain number of marks in the optional paper to qualify in the paper.
Secondly, the Optional papers marks will not be added in the final score which decides the merit as the optional paper have been made just qualifying.
Thirdy, the optional paper from BPSC 68 will be of MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) type which means that the subjective answers that we used to write in Mains of BPSC before are done away with. Now, we have to solve MCQs in the optional Paper of BPSC 68.
Also, a paper on Essay of 300 Marks has been introduced which will add to the final score of Mains.
Now the Mains Exam of BPSC 68 Examination will consist of Hindi (Qualifying), General Studies Paper 1 and Paper 2, Essay and Optional Paper (Qualifying).

Candidates have to select one optional subject from the list of optionals given in the notification. It is mandatory to score minimum number of marks in optionals as per category below:

It is to be noted that from BPSC 68 the final merit will be made on the basis of the score obtained in General Studies Paper 1, General Studies Paper 2 and Essay. Hindi and Optional will be of Qualifying Nature.
The commission has stated that the above changes have been made as a solution to the issue raised by candidates about scaling/ Normalisation in the mains paper.
