The Indian Constitution is framed after the Indian Independence and majority provisions of the constitution got enforced on January 26, 1950. The Indian Constitution Overview
When India became independent in 1947, there came a need to frame a new constitution for independent India. Before the Indian independence Britishers were running India mainly according to the provisions of Government of India act 1935. On February 20, 1947 British Prime Minister that the British rule in India should end and power transfer will take place from Britishers to able Indian hands. To make it happen Indian Independence act of 1947 was enacted.
Overview and Formation of the Constituent Assembly
In 1934, Visionary Indians demanded a new Constitution for Independent India. An idea of formation of the constituent assembly to frame the constitution of Independent India was proposed. The demand of the constituent assembly to frame the Indian Constitution of Independent India was finally accepted by the Britishers in 1940. The constituent assembly was constituted in November 1946 as per the plan of the cabinet mission to frame the constitution of Independent India.
Many committees were constituted under the constituent assembly dedicated to ponder upon each part of the constitution. The committees of the constituent assembly is given as follows:

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar introduced the final draft of the Constitution in the Assembly on November 4, 1948. The first reading started on this date and continued for 5 days. After the first reading the second reading started on November 15, 1948. The third and the final reading was done on November 14, 1949. On November 26, 1949, the motion on Draft Constitution was declared as passed and received the signatures of the members and the president of the constituent assembly. This is the date mentioned in the Preamble as the date on which the people of India in the Constituent Assembly adopted, enacted and gave to themselves this Constitution.
